NEW

In the Theater World when a garment or hat is built in the costume shop sometimes the best compliment that you can receive is that it looks store-bought-new.

Sometimes these prop items of outdoor hats and great-coats are only seen for 30 seconds in the dark. As the player dashes into the scene and throws off the winter garments the stage lights begin to glow on and the 30 hours of studio work is seen in a pile on the couch.

  4. It is funny because I saw somewhere on the news that homemade clothes are the new style. When we were kids and our mom made most of our clothes, we only wanted store bought clothes. Now I am old enough to realize that the only true difference is that one has a store label and you paid more then it is worth, whereas the homemade item has a label of love and is priceless.

Costume shop workers are doing priceless work and hopefully sometime someone gets to wear the hat as a new article of clothing.

Yes, a great new Theme Thursday idea.

    God bless.

  7. Your grouse about the hard backstage studio labor not getting its due respect is genuinely true and sad!! You have highlighted it so well here!!
